The Lullaby
Set in M'sila
Listen. A woman is singing.
The story
She sings in a small apartment in M'sila, on the fourth floor of a building that smells of concrete and cooking oil. The lullaby is old, older than the city, older than the language she sings it in. When Naima begins researching the origins of a lullaby that every mother in her family has sung for generations, she discovers that the song is not just a song. It is a frequency. It is a key. And something beneath the city has been listening to it for centuries, waiting for the right voice to sing it the right way.
