The Beekeeper of The Atlas
Set in The Atlas above Blida
The mountain does not announce itself.
The story
Youssef Taibi has kept bees on the slopes of the Atlas above Blida for fifty years. Two hundred hives, tended in the way his father taught him, producing honey that tastes of cedar and lavender and a particular altitude that no other mountain provides. When a university researcher arrives to study the colony collapse devastating bees across Algeria, she discovers that Youssef's hives are not just surviving, they are thriving. The honey they produce has properties that should not exist. And Youssef's methods, passed down through generations of mountain beekeepers, contain knowledge that modern science is only beginning to understand.
